DEATH ANGEL

Death Angel stands as one of the last relentless pillars of Bay Area thrash metal, forming in 1982 in Daly City, California. Founded by cousins Rob Cavestany (lead guitar), Dennis Pepa (bass/vocals), Gus Pepa (rhythm guitar), and Andy Galeon (drums), the band quickly infused the aggressive energy of youth into their music. Vocalist Mark Osegueda soon joined the lineup, becoming a constant part of the group.
They fractured expectations early on with their ferocious debut, The Ultra-Violence (1987)—recorded while all members were still teenagers—earning them immediate acclaim from the thrash underground. Their sophomore record, Frolic Through the Park (1988), broadened their sonic palette and cemented their presence with standout tracks like Bored. Their third album, Act III (1990), showcased maturity and experimentation via funk, progressive, acoustic, and punk influences. Yet tragedy struck in 1991 when a devastating tour bus accident forced the band to disband just as they were gaining momentum.
A decade later, in 2001, Death Angel reunited for a benefit show, and the raw chemistry returned with force. What began as a one-off quickly blossomed into a full-fledged career revival. They released celebrated albums such as:
-
The Art of Dying (2004)
-
Relentless Retribution (2010)
-
The Dream Calls for Blood (2013)
-
The Evil Divide (2016)
-
Humanicide (2019)
The title track from Humanicide earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
Known for their razor-sharp riffs, breakneck tempos, and unyielding stage energy, Death Angel continues to carry the thrash torch with Rob Cavestany as the enduring creative engine and Mark Osegueda’s powerful vocals lighting the way.
