Intensive Square was formed in 2007 off the
back of a shared desire to create, hear, and perform some truly devastating
music. Tired of the dull conventions of contemporary metal, we decided to leave
the weaklings of the genre identifying with mock pessimisms and false
mythologies in the mirrors of their parents’ bathrooms, whilst we forged tales
of abstract universes - with impossible science and apocalyptic horror. We staked
out the places where the bands in our area buy their make-up and burned them to
the ground. This is masculine music that makes girls wet and starts fights.
Four of our members are from Pembrokeshire (Middle Earth) and have shared
stages in various capacities over the years. Our line-up was completed in 2010
by ex-Shaped by Fate vocalist, Ben Duffin-Jones.
Our primary influences are Pantera, Meshuggah,
and Crowbar. We are heavily influenced by jazz music, particularly Naked
City, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman. We have spent the
past few years creating a consistent and cohesive sound of our own that remains
extremely focused, despite its eclecticism. Using hulking rhythmic passages,
dense chromaticism, downtuned guitar riffs, and saxophones, we deliver an
original and devastating smack to the teeth of our listeners, assuming that our
listeners have mouths in their ears (which they do).
