Here at Bloodstock HQ we are excited to announce the first batch of breaking bands to grace the Hobgoblin-sponsored ‘New Blood’ stage this year. BLOODSTOCK is very proud to support new bands from all over the world and the ‘New Blood’ stage gives them the platform to showcase grass-roots acts,underlining their belief that you don’t necessarily need a big record deal to have a shot at playing the festival. The following bands were chosen from CD applications to perform at Catton Park, while more will be added later via the ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ tour which kicks off on 10th May and rolls through local clubs and venues throughout June. This year’s tour is the biggest to date, encompassing 23 regions, including various UK cities, as well as events in Latvia, Norway, and the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey. The best bands are chosen from each event to land a spot at Bloodstock this year. So get down to your local M2TM’s venue and you decide who you want to see perform at Bloodstock this year! The lucky seven additions span a range of metal genres; Londoner’s ABHORRENT DECIMATION (death metal), Canada’s PHANTOM (trad metal), Slovenians THE CANYON OBSERVER (post-noise/sludge), Norway’s ANGERMAN (grunge rock/metal), London outfit BRUTAI (metalcore), Scotland’s SCORDATURA (death metal) and South London outfit, STONEGHOST (hard classic rock). Fear not, for BLOODSTOCK will keep hunting out new additions via CD applications, video uploads, and the aforementioned ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ tour for some weeks yet! There’s still time to enter! BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL are ready to announce their first batch of club promo nights for the 2014 event! Friday night’s headliners are New Orleans sludgemeisters, DOWN, who release their latest EP, ‘Down IV; EP Two’ on 12th May. Joining them to head up Saturday night are re-united black metal overlords, EMPEROR who are celebrating 20 years of their monumental ‘In The Nightside Eclipse’ opus, and closing out proceedings on Sunday are the mighty thrash legends, MEGADETH, whose back catalogue features classic track after classic track after….you get the picture. Also announced so far are DIMMU BORGIR, AMON AMARTH, OBITUARY, CROWBAR, HATEBREED, LACUNA COIL, HELLYEAH, CARCASS, PRONG, CHILDREN OF BODOM, SAXON, DECAPITATED, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, EVIL SCARECROW, GRAVEYARD and many more. With BLOODSTOCK just twenty weeks away, there’s still plenty to announce as yet more bands rack up for this year’s event at Catton Park! There’s no such thing as too much metal, with even more riffs coming your way on both the Ronnie James Dio main stage and the big top Sophie Lancaster stage. Norse black metal standard-bearers, DIMMU BORGIR are set to be Friday’s main stage special guest and will be playing their only UK show in 2014 at BLOODSTOCK. The band are hard at work on new material planned for release later this year. Maybe they’ll even showcase something new at Catton Park! Comments Shagrath: “We are excited for our return to Bloodstock 2014, the one and only UK festival we do this year. It will be a special event for sure, without revealing too much, but a 20th anniversary show will not go unnoticed. The band will be taking the roof off the Sophie big top stage late on Saturday, performing after the stage headliners, SISTER SIN. The band’s legendary drummer, Vinnie Paul comments; “BLOODSTOCK is one of the best festivals to play anywhere in the world!! HELLYEAH is very excited to be a part of it again! Get your game face on and let’s rip this one up! Cheers!! I’m Vinnie Paul and I approve this message!!” Grabbing an opening slot on Friday’s main stage are homegrown extreme metal outfit, BLOODSHOT DAWN. Former winners of BLOODSTOCK’s ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ programme in 2009, the four piece have been playing dates with Wintersun, had a slot at UK Techfest, and are currently writing their second album. They intend to debut some new tracks at Catton Park especially for the BOA faithful. The band exclaim, “Back in 2008, BLOODSTOCK was a springboard for DE PROFUNDIS career. Now six years later with our forthcoming EP and album we are looking to cement our name in the UK metal scene with an explosive performance!” The band enter their studio in London shortly to record the follow-up to ‘The Emptiness Within’. Hot on the heels of last week’s band announcement, BLOODSTOCK can now unveil a further seven bands locked in to play at Catton Park this August. BLOODSTOCK are delighted to welcome Norwegian “blackjazz” act SHINING, who will grace the main Ronnie James Dio Stage on Friday. SHINING are an intriguing, avant garde mix of jazz, prog, and metal, citing varied influences from John Coltrane to Nine Inch Nails. The band soon embark on a slew of US tour dates with Dillinger Escape Plan. Bringing their jiggery to Friday’s Sophie Lancaster Stage are folk metal pioneers, SKYCLAD. The band played the first ever BLOODSTOCK at Derby’s Assembly Rooms back in 2001 and are very much looking forward to getting a ‘jig-pit’ going once again at BOA 2014. Guitarist Steve Ramsey is already appearing with his ‘other’ band SATAN, who headline Sunday’s Sophie stage. Featuring members of Gallows, Cry For Silence, Sikth, and Hexes, the chaps describe themselves as “mostly beards and riffs”! The band pulled off a skin-peeling set on BLOODSTOCK’s Jagermeister stage in 2012. No strangers to the UK, the band have visited previously with Five Finger Death Punch and Avenged Sevenfold, to name but two.
