Tuesday, June 24. 2008SOULFLY CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2008! The Bloodstock team are delighted to announce that Brazilian metallers SOULFLY have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2008. Soulfly were formed in 1997 by vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera following his acrimonious departure from Sepultura and the band have gone on to record no less than six albums fusing thrash, hardcore and traditional tribal influences. Their self-titled debut, featuring a host of guest musicians, emerged in 1998 and immediately entered the US Billboard top 200 chart, its bottom-heavy groove continuing the highly-influential style that Cavalera had pioneered with his final Sepultura album ‘Roots’. 2000’s follow-up ‘Primitive’ – also packed with guest appearances - did even better and established a trend that has seen every Soulfly album crack the Billboard 200. ‘3’, ‘Prophecy’ and ‘Dark Ages’ all followed, with Cavalera enduring line-up changes and personal tragedy to keep his personal metal vision on the rails. In the second half of 2007, Cavalera and the current line-up of guitarist Marc Rizzo, bassist Bobby Burns and drummer Joe Nunez commenced work on the band’s latest album ‘Conquer’ which is set for release on July 29, just in time for what’s set to be an explosive Bloodstock debut. Sunday, June 15. 2008Bloodstock Guitar Hero Ilkeston Produces First Wild Card![]() Adam Gregory ( Bloodstock ), with second place winner Matthew Gough and Rob Swain (Zebra Muzik ) Zebra Music - an instrument store located in Ilkeston - yesterday became more than the ultimate source for musicians with its variety of acoustic/ electric guitars and drums for purchase. It consequently became the battleground for Guitar Hero’s spanning across the Ilkeston area, fighting for their chance to play at this years Bloodstock Open Air and win some very attractive prizes. The competition began at 10am Saturday morning. Beginning with members of the Bloodstock Team who seemed to be more than “testing” the equipment in Pro-Battle Face-Off, soon after came the first contestant Matthew Gough who initially came second overall with a score of 234,945 on the song “Raining Blood”, winning him and his parents’ tickets to this year’s final at the festival! Devised of three runs, a practice run and then two tries for the participant to have a go and achieve his highest score for the price of £5, many came and had a go for the first-time! Among them were Niall Barker and Oliver Haywood, two boys around ten years old that gradually learned to play “Slow Ride” right there at the competition venue and were there just to have fun. Matthew Lewis, the resulting Guitar Hero Champion at venue Zebra music, left with a stunning 235,305 placing him straight into first, giving him a comfortable bench mark against future competitors later on in the day. Yet, Saturday did hold a few surprises in its clutches, especially for young Charlotte Wong. By the afternoon 1st and 2nd place were held by both Matthews. After attaining the score of 156,869 on “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns’n’Roses, medium difficulty, it seemed she didn’t have a chance of winning the competition. Though when she was offered the chance to play a Guitar Hero Pro Face-Off against one of the Bloodstock Team members and won, she was thrown a wildcard as a 3rd prize winner awarded for her skill and determination during the competition; receiving a child and adult ticket to attend the finals. All three winners will represent Zebra Music, Ilkeston, at the Guitar Hero Finals at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air Metal Festival later on this year in August. Well done to all those that attended the venue yesterday and we hope to see you all at Bloodstock! Click Here to see some of the other Contestants from Guitar Hero on saturday . Regards Bloodstock Team Tuesday, June 3. 2008PRAYING MANTIS CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2008!![]() PRAYING MANTIS The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that NWOBHM legends PRAYING MANTIS have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2008. Praying Mantis were formed by brothers Tino and Chris Troy in the mid ‘70s and they later became part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement which swept the UK in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, producing bands such as Saxon, Def Leppard, Diamond Head and most famously, Iron Maiden. Pursuing a direction which was more melodic and AOR-orientated than most of their homeland contemporaries, the band issued their debut album ‘Time Tells No Lies’ in 1981 to widespread critical acclaim. Management and line-up instability, however, quickly undermined their success and after two further singles, the band temporarily split and remained inactive until 1991’s comeback album ‘Predator In Disguise’ which featured ex-Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton. Since then, the band have continued to record regularly and play selected live dates and their forthcoming BOA show marks a rare opportunity to witness Praying Mantis perform on home turf. Speaking out about playing this year's Bloodstock, Praying Mantis has issued the following statement: "We are really looking forward to playing Bloodstock this year. This is our first open air festival in the UK for a number of years but you can be sure that we will give you a set to remember. The stone faced rockers may well recall us from the crazy days of the New wave of British heavy metal, but no doubt will be surprised to hear the vibrance and vitality of the classic heavy rock sound as it is today." "Look out Bloodstock, the Mantis is coming and will have your head off!!!!!!" Click Here to view the PRAYING MANTIS Bloodstock Band Profile Page .
