Taking a breather from supporting his first solo album in 28 years, Paul Stanley will be joining Kiss band mate Gene Simmons in New York this week.
“This Halloween we’re celebrating the release of DVD ‘Kissology Volume one’ so Gene and I will be in New York in full regalia,” Stanley tells AOL music. “We’ll be spending a day doing a whole lot of stuff, including MTV.” On October 31st it won’t be the only time Stanley has donned the face paint. 1998 was one of the most memorable Halloweens for him in recent years, despite being fully attired, Kiss made their way back to their Los Angeles hotel by foot and unpestered. “We had just finished the opening night of our Psychocircus tour at Dodger Stadium. The traffic was so bad, and we literally had just come offstage and wanted to get back to the hotel,” Stanley recounts “It was the perfect night for us to get out and walk to the hotel. People were just looking at us going, ‘Yeah! Great costumes’” Sunday, October 29. 2006
Every Night Is Halloween For Alice ... Posted by Jennifer Coleman

Halloween. What better time for Alice Cooper, who plays the Orpheum tomorrow [Sunday, Oct. 29], to come to town?
Alice Cooper didn’t used to spend Halloween skewering baby dolls, getting beheaded and the other scary things he’s known for doing onstage. You might have seen Alice Cooper trick or treating out with his kids, if you lived in Phoenix 10 years ago. ‘‘I went out as Zorro a couple times, and I must say I made a pretty dashing Zorro,” he recalled by phone last week. ‘‘And one year I did a full-on Michael Myers. I’d have a little button with the theme music playing, and when the kids were getting their bags filled I’d just stand by the door staring. I figured out that you can scare people pretty good that way; if you just stand there not talking it really gets them going. Especially if you come back later and stand outside their window.” Alice is back to dressing as Alice, now that his kids are grown, and during the past decade, his Halloween tours have become dependable. ‘‘For us it’s Halloween every night,” he said, ‘‘but this is the one time of year when the audience dresses up better than we do. I like it when they come dressed as characters from the show, like the executioner or the nurse.” Since ‘‘Poison” in 1992, he hasn’t had a hit single, though Alice has lately made a musical comeback. Alice Cooper had gone through arena-rock and speed-metal phases but his last two albums, ‘‘The Eyes of Alice Cooper”‘ and ‘‘Dirty Diamonds,” marked a return to the rougher garage sound of his ’70s discs. ‘‘I was listening to the White Stripes, the Strokes, Jet and thinking, “Why does this sound familiar to me?” he said. ‘‘Of course! It’s 1968 Detroit garage rock. I was tired of getting drunk on technology, and now I could go back to playing with a great bar band. We made the last album in 16 days. If somebody dropped a bass line, I’d say, “Good. That’s what a live band sounds like.” ‘‘There’s not much difference between me and someone like Aerosmith. I’m sure I listened to the Yardbirds as much as they did.” Alice did some new songs yesterday, but fear not: You could have still counted on him to get guillotined midway through the show. ‘‘That’s by popular demand,” Alice said. ‘‘There are so many kids out there now who’ve heard about it but never seen it. Thanks to the Internet, kids nowadays are more educated about music than they’ve ever been. I guarantee that if you see 10 kids in a mall, seven of them will be wearing classic-rock T-shirts. They find out about Ozzy and Led Zeppelin, and the more demented ones like us.” You probably would have to be closer to the 58-year-old Alice’s demographic to recognize one of his inspirations for the show. ‘‘There will be things flying off the stage,” Alice said. ‘‘It’s a mix of serial killer and Rip Taylor.” Sunday, October 29. 2006

Rockdetector, the world’s largest Rock & Metal database, has just entered its 50,000th band.
Established by Rock journalist and author Garry Sharpe-Young as an online database in September 2001, Rockdetector is recognised as the primary and most detailed host of factual data on all things Rock and Metal, covering all genres and styles, all eras and all recordings – 7”s, 12”s, CDs, albums, promos, demos and DVDs. As well as Rockdetector’s staggering array of facts, recordings, line-ups, photos, logos, track lists, archive global gig guide, international chart positions, labels and catalogue numbers the site over 26,000 wholly unique biographies, over 95% of which are penned by Garry himself. Many of these, such as Metallica, Nightwish, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne , Cradle Of Filth, W.A.S.P. and Black Sabbath, are recognised as the most authoritive on the net. “I’m in touch with a lot of musicians and they really appreciate the objectivity of the site. Rockdetector is about facts first and foremost” reckons Garry. “The site is a great focus for selling music too, across the most notorious Black Metal to the most laid back AOR, as users read the bios then buy the albums. That’s what makes it worthwhile. Of course there are a handful of disgruntled musos too. For example, Tom Warrior hates the Celtic Frost biography, but it’s totally accurate.” Some surprising facts come up too. Whatever you do - don't call your band Legion - Rockdetector already has 40 of them! Did you want the classic British Hard Rock band or the Costa Rican Ska-Punkers? Or that one of the most viewed bands on Rockdetector does not even exist! Most Metal country? Easily Finland with 2178 bands, for it's tiny population that's incredible. It’s this depth of information and attention to detail that keeps users on the website for hours at a time, inspires hundreds of emails every day and over 35 million hits a month. The gig guide has over half a million concerts listed. Over the past 12 months these statistics have been rising sharply and there are major changes coming in 2007. “Much of this year has been spent working out exactly how to grow the database much faster and add more detail at the same time. Rockdetector will expand enormously” states Garry. “A long time ago I recognised that it could not carry on as a solo effort. Reaching 100,000 bands is going to be much, much quicker. The change will be dramatic – and quite unique too.” Besides keeping Rockdetector up to date, Garry has found time to publish 14 Rock books, including the acclaimed, ultra-detailed “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” Black Sabbath history, with more to come. “We’re just finishing off a massive, 600 plus page discography book right now, which is the first of a series of 12. All the genres will be covered” says Garry. “I’ve actually got a lot more exclusive info to update “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” again too - some great material that has never been made public. I’ve been talking with another major band about an official biography for a long time too. On top of that I have a 600,000 word book simply called “Metal”, coming out in the spring, and I’ve penned the liner notes for the new Sabbath / Dio compilation.” Bands should register their info and gigs at:www.rockdetector.com Friday, October 27. 2006

Saxon a heavy metal band is rumoured to be playing at a special secret gig at a pub in Lincoln, England on Friday October 27th because of a documentary they’re doing for TV.
“Recording commitments” was the recent reason to why Saxon cancelled its South American/ Mexican tour. On June 27th Steamhammer/ SPV released Saxon’s new live album “The Eagle Has Landed Part 3” in the U.S. It features the new recordings with drummer Nigel Glocker, who following an extended break, has just returned to the Saxon fold. The album was recorded by two different line-ups: the 2004 cuts featuring the drummer Jörg Michael and the 2005 material, which presents Nigel Glocker. Consisting next to Glocker, of founding members Biff Byford (vocals), Nibbs Carter (bass), Paul Quinn (guitar) and Doug Scarratt (guitar). Saxon as a band are definitely still one of the hottest, existing live bands of today. Friday, October 27. 2006

The reunion of the Black Sabbath Dio era is official, according to Black Sabbath’s website. “Heaven and Hell” is the new name that Black Sabbath is going under but is still going to include: Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward.
“Heaven and Hell” is also the title of the album they recorded in the 1980’s. Black Sabbath are planning to start touring, and recording a new album in early 2007. Commenting previously on the possibility of further collaborations with Ronnie James Dio, was Tony Iommi: “We've already written one new song together. The reason for that is that there's a release coming out, it's called 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years' they've already done one, of course, 'Black Sabbath: The Ozzy Years'; that was the beginning and, really, the best part of it all but they've decided to do one, again, 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years', and we wanted to make it a little but more special, not just give you things you've not heard from a live perspective. These are two things you'll never hear again two new songs. We are going to do that. It's been fun already. The one we've done the one that I've done with Tony has been really wonderful just great to realize how magnificent a player he was. You forget that after 10 years at a time that you don't work with someone. So we are gonna be doing that. And I hope you'll like it. I think it'll be great.” Wednesday, October 25. 2006

Tom Hamilton, the bassist of Aerosmith is sitting out on the first part of the band’s tour “The Route Of All Evil” after completing a seven-week course of radiation treatment for throat cancer. David Hull is filling in for Hamilton, who is a long time friend of the band. Hamilton issued the following update:
“Hey, just wanted to say hi and tell everybody what's up in my world. I'm getting better steadily but kind of slowly. I've been finished with the radiation treatment for a couple of months. I was hoping to be close to being out on the road with the band by now but it's still too soon. The radiation burns the hell out of your mouth and throat and the healing process can take a while. Whenever I talk to someone who hasn't spoken to me in a while they say I sound completely better. My voice was kind of screwed up for a time. People who haven't seen me in a while they say I look normal (for me). I'm getting close and I'm chomping at the bit but the real decisions are up to the doctors and the healing process.” "I went into a room by myself recently and listened to the new 'greatest hits' album. I turned the lights down and the volume up and just sat back and let it roll over me. After a couple of songs went by I went into a state where I felt really close to the band and really far away at the same time. In my head I was connected and isolated all at once. Another part of me was in the time period of each song with movies of those times playing in my head. I don't really sit down and listen to our albums that way very often and it had a lot of emotion for me. I have to say the emotion was good and a little sad but mostly good.” "A lot of people have sent me cards and stuff. As a matter of fact, way more than I would have expected. I can't say how much I appreciate it. There are times when I have to really lean against my support system and it helps to have it coming in from all directions.” "Have I gotten too corny yet? I really hate excessive corniness but it's hard to talk about these things without some sneaking in. What I mostly want to say is thanks." “Devils Got A New Disguise” is Aerosmith’s new best-of collection, which was released on October 17th via Columbia. Two new songs, which the CD features are: “Devils Got A New Disguise” and “Sedona Sunrise” the rest of the set is pared down to a single-disc version of 2002’s two CD set “O, Yeah Ultimate Aerosmith Hits” This two CD contains mixes of 14 favourites of the band’s tenures with both Columbia and Geffen. The band Guns N’ Roses delayed the first two dates of its North American tour, in bid to finish its long-delayed Chinese Democracy album, according to Southwest Florida’s News-Press.com. Guns N’ Roses was supposed to begin the tour on October 20th in Jacksonville, Florida, then another gig in Nashville but they were both disappointedly discarded.
The promoter John Stoll assured that the shows were cancelled not because of low-ticket sales, but simply because the singer W. Axl Rose was “putting the finishing touches on the new album” The group rescheduled the Jacksonville concert for October 31st 2006. On October Tuesday 24th in Sunrise, Florida the Guns N’ Roses tour opened “The most exciting, gut-pumping, lighter-flickering thing seen so far this year in South Florida,” Is what Leslie Gray Streeter of the Palm Beach Post called the concert. Guns N’ Roses also play on Friday October 27th in Estero, Florida. To rephrase the band’s manager, on the release of Chinese Democracy, there are eight Tuesdays left in 2006. Monday, October 23. 2006
