The special 10th anniversary of BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2010 is less than a month away. Featuring metal giants such as OPETH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, FEAR FACTORY, TWISTED SISTER, plus a special guest slot filled by MESHUGGAH, BLOODSTOCK is the only outdoor true metal festival in the UK.

With a reputation for introducing new bands to the world of Metal, BLOODSTOCK is also the place to find the best of the unsigned talent, the names who will be on everyone’s lips in the not too distant future, via the huge unsigned initiative known as METAL 2 THE MASSES.

Following the success of 2009's debut EP 'Drawn Viscera', Flayed Disciple have now completed their 2010 self titled EP, containing two new tracks 'Ejaculate While Killing' and 'Exodus', keeping to their soldering iron-hot, thrashing death metal style. Credit To Dementia initially formed in 2008 in Cornwall. Influenced by many different forms of metal and other musical styles. After numerous line up changes the band has been ripping it up all over Cornwall with the aim of taking their unique blend of metal to a wider stage. The current line up has been performing since early 2010 and are now ready to achieve their aim and play to the metal masses!

Shrapnel formed in 2009 and in less than eighteen months have achieved more than most do in years. With appearances at the Scala in London, Full Thrash Assault Festival 2010, a support slot with Sepultura and now Bloodstock open Air 2010, the bands hard work and determination is more than apparent.



With a ‘no nonsense’ approach to Thrash, Shrapnel deliver on both CD and in a live setting. From screaming guitar solos to the crushing drum fills Shrapnel are reminiscent of the Glory Days of Thrash Metal but not so much they try to re-create them. AGHAST

AGHAST are a four piece Extreme Metal Band from London, their music has most often been described as "Extreme Metal".

They take inspiration from from the Trash - Infused sounds of the Scandinavian Scene and the Groove - Orientated Metal of the USA in the early 1990's.

Their style incorporates the unbridled aggression and pummeling blast-beats of early death metal with a nod to the more recent crop of "Metalcore" and "Deathcore" acts.

At the end of 2009 we reviewed the variables that made the online worldwide Bloodstock unsigned competition fair to all users and decided to remove page views and Downloads per video, which would mean a band is now judged on one variable, which is closed votes that are registered on the Bloodstock website .

This year`s Bloodstock Unsigned competition saw more than 300 unsigned metal bands from around the world, battle it out in Categories A, B and C , for a places on the unsigned stage and Sophie Lancaster stage.

The videos were watched by the Bloodstock fans, votes were cast and now our esteemed webmaster has checked the logs and the results for this year`s competition now are in.

We would like to thank each and every one for taking part and also to thank everyone who watched and voted and ultimately helped to chose the three fan favourites who will go on to play the festival, so without further ado:

METAL 2 THE MASSES WINNERS – LEEDS

Grieve are a Huddersfield based heavy metal band that use a selection of groovy and powerful riffs to rip up the stage and always look to pump up the audience. With six years of solid gigging and progressing musically, Grieve have formed a tight set of straight up heavy metal. As the members of the band became more experienced and mature, their sound did the same. Catchy riffs accompanied more focused and well thought out lyrics and the bands' energy and stage presence grew more and more powerful. Originally being influenced by early Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath gives them a more dynamic mix of classic metal which successfully accompanies the aggressive down tuned feel they create now.

Glasgow based Achren's brand of metal is crushingly heavy and uncompromising. Formed in early 2003 with the aim of forging raw, filthy, heavy as Fuck metal, their music is a mixture of all Extreme Metal, Black Metal Screams, Death Metal Growls, Thrashy Riffs, Black Metal Riffs & Pounding Drums; everything raw, powerful and heavy.

SPLINTERED SOUL
METAL 2 THE MASSES WINNERS - KENT
Formed in 2009 by guitarist Chris Frost, Splintered Soul combine a wide range of styles to produce their own unique brand of progressive metal. Influences include numerous classical composers and film scores, blended with a variety of heavy metal sub-genres. Even before the completion of the band, Splintered Soul were inundated with requests for an album, and achieved worldwide airplay with the release of an Instrumental EP. With the line-up completed, the crushing riffs and sweeping solos were fused with the soaring vocals of classically-trained soprano Mandi Bailey. The band's first live performance saw them take to the main stage of the Red Roar festival in support of Panic Cell, The Rotted and Silent Descent, and the resulting popularity ensured that Splintered Soul were headlining by their second show. This year it is Splintered Soul's turn to bring their live performance to Bloodstock, and the show is not to be missed!

ZOCALO
UNSIGNED ADDITION - KENT
So who are we......Well, Zocalo are a South-London, 5 piece, groove-metal band. Playing in a style we like to call 'Blooze'. It's all the best bits of Heavy-Metal & Blues mixed with funky strutting grooves. We've been around for 6 years now tearing up pubs, clubs & venues all over England playing with some of the finest bands in the scene, entering several competitions and placing pretty well, until this year, when we won 'BANDQUEST 2010 - Kent' and the right to play the 'Unsigned stage' at this years BLOODSTOCK Open Air festival. Stoked doesn't quite cover it. We play because we love it and that's the point. Everything else is big bonus.

ECHOES FALL
METAL 2 THE MASSES WINNERS - ESSEX
Forged in the cesspool known as Ipswich, Echoes Fall roared onto the metal scene in the bitter winter of 2008. Initial tracks like “Ignite The Fury” set the stage for the boys and opened a world of local and national gigs with many high profile bands including Criminal, Forever Never and Fei Comodo. EF provide a live show akin to none and will be sure to get you moving in no time. UNSIGNED ADDITION - ESSEX
Silas were formed in mid 2008; coming together after 7 years experience on the circuit gigging with different bands, they leave crowds shattered with the raw energy, spontaneity and unique quality of their performances… You will hear infectious heavy rock grooves and adrenaline fuelled metal carnage explode into a jazz progression and a mind blowing guitar solo; they draw their influences from all the music they hear, whether it be blues, reggae, soul, metal…yet they don’t aim to sound like anyone else. Fusion and originality are what Silas are all about!

LORDAERON
METAL 2 THE MASSES WINNERS – DERBY
Lordaeron's sound is the product of influence from all aspects of music though there sound is somewhere inbetween Nile, The Faceless, Meshuggah, Origin, and Cattle Decapitation. The first self release entitled ‘So It Begins…’ 2006 (with sequenced drums as opposed to live drum recording) saw them setting the bar for speed, brutality and all out epic ness of the blackest kind. With much underground acclaim, the legion was born. Currently, the future looks notably vile and promising. Their debut album ‘Sacrosanct’ will be released via Union Black Records and contains re-workings of a handful of tracks from "...So It Begins." as well as a number of new tracks.
Lordaeron are very pleased to be joining the ranks at this years BOA along with some of the biggest names in Death Metal, and promise a fine display of brutality and captivating aggression, held solid by an insane rhythm section, face-melting shred/chug/sweep and a venom!!

Tempestora is a three piece thrash/heavy metal band from Gloucestershire, taking influence from such great bands as Annihalator, Metallica, Testament, Evile, Megadeth, Machine Head the list goes on and on!
Combining speed, heavyness, techniclity, melody, ripping solos, pounding drums, gnarly bass and girthy vocals make up the sound of Tempestora.

Morgue Orgy is extreme metal with a smile on its face. After only being together a mere two years, 6-piece Birmingham based band Morgue Orgy are gaining national and international recognition. The band, consisting of drums, bass, keyboards, 2 guitars and vocals have ventured to places like Wolverhampton, Mansfield, Leeds, Nuneaton and London where they have gained fans and working relations with promoters, venues and bands.

“The River and I” is the bands first EP release with tracksbeing played on Kerrang! radio, online metal shows such as Basement sounds, Top Rock and Rhubarb radio they have had coverage on the cover CD of Terrorizer and Zero Tolerance Magazine in the UK, as well as reviews and interviews in Rock Hard magazine (Greece) and Legacy magazine (Germany). With a line-up boasting headline appearances from CHILDREN OF BODOM, FEAR FACTORY, TWISTED SISTER, plus a special guest slot filled by MESHUGGAH, BLOODSTOCK can now confirm the final headline slot for BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2010. The Friday night will be closed by Swedish Prog-Metal superstars OPETH, who headlined back in 2008.

"We're pretty excited about coming back to play the Bloodstock festival with Opeth.” States frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt “Myself and Axe will of course be double-fisting since we gonna cause some havoc with Bloodbath as well. We got asked to play since Heaven & Hell cancelled and even though we obviously feel that we cannot possibly match their magic or fill the void, it will be a like a personal tribute show to the memory of Ronnie Dio. So needless to say I'm honoured to play, it will be intimidating and emotional I believe. We'll deliver as usual of course but yeah, I will be thinking about Dio, that's for sure."

Since 1990, OPETH have dazzled audiences with their unique blend of death metal, prog and folk, earning a diverse fanbase through the use of both electric and acoustic guitars, and clean and growled vocals. Their 2008 headline slot earned the band rave reviews across the music press, for a performance that had the assembled mass of metalheads captivated with their intricate, beautifully executed compositions. With special guests MESHUGGAH preceding OPETH’s headline slot, we look forward to an awesome close to the first full day of BOA 2010 on Friday 13th August.

Crusader was not only the first album cover Paul Raymond Gregory painted for Saxon but his first for any band. 25 years later this historic cover is released as a fine art limited edition print of 500 copies worldwide. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied with a letter of authenticity.

Not only in celebration of 40 years of metal and ten years of Bloodstock but in recognition of Paul's relationship with the band that Headlined the first Bloodstock and gave him eleven covers, Paul has reduced the price of the edition to just £50.00 to the run up to the festival.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR has announced a further two additions to it’s 2010 line up.

German metallers POWERWOLF will headline the SOPHIE LANCASTER stage on Friday 13th August. The Teutonic terrors look forward to their debut UK appearance at BLOODSTOCK’s 10th anniversary event.

"It's a big honour for us to celebrate the metal mass at this legendary festival" comments guitarist Matthew Greywolf. "This will be our first time in the UK, and getting the chance to perform at the country's biggest Metal festival is incredible. We can't wait to unleash mayhem there!"

Since 2003, the Metal Blade signed five piece have amassed a large and loyal fanbase with their highly entertaining live show, led by ATTILA DORN, half frontman, half evil minister. With a reputation across Europe as one of the most exciting bands out there, and BLOODSTOCK’s reputation for bringing the hottest new bands in metal to the UK for the first time, their addition to this year’s line up with this exclusive appearance is a no brainer, and we look forward to their Satanic Sermon on Friday 13th August 2010.

Joining them will be British Thrash maniacs HOSPITAL OF DEATH. Originally formed in 1994 to play a one-off show, the band rediscovered their love of old school thrash at a 2006 reunion, and have kept thrashing ever since, with fun-filled songs such as “Transformers”, “Let’s Go Apeshit” and “Stairway To Hell”.

DESECRATION ADDED TO SOPHIE STAGE

BLOODSTOCK FOUNDER PAUL GREGORY PAYS TRIBUTE TO RONNIE JAMES DIO WITH RENAMING OF MAIN STAGE

As the BLOODSTOCK team were preparing this announcement, we received the tragic news of the passing of metal legend RONNIE JAMES DIO - originally scheduled to appear as one of the headliners of this year’s festival, fronting HEAVEN & HELL. So before sharing the news of the latest announcement, we’d like to pay tribute to one of metal’s leading and legendary lights, with the announcement of the renaming of BLOODSTOCK’s MAIN STAGE as the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage. BLOODSTOCK founder PAUL GREGORY - responsible for the cover artwork for DIO’s “Angry Machines” and “Inferno - Last In Live” albums - says on behalf of the BLOODSTOCK family:

“It is indeed a sad time for me and I know for metalheads throughout the world; the demise of one of the true legends of metal has come to pass. I had the privilege of doing two albums for Dio and only got the opportunity to meet him once, a true gentleman in every sense and a giant of the genre. My condolences to the family and all true fans of the music we love.

“As the UK’s only true outdoor metal festival, it seems only fitting that we pay tribute to a man who has done so much for our beloved genre, and so - with overwhelming support from our social networking users - we wish to pay tribute by renaming our main stage the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage, and ensure the spirit of this metal icon lives on”

With the cancellation of HEAVEN & HELL’s summer appearances, BLOODSTOCK have been left with boots to fill that are simply far too big for just one band - the metal legends are irreplaceable. So HEAVEN & HELL’s vacant slot will be filled by not one, but two awesome names from the world of metal, in the form of a headliner, plus a very special guest.

We are tremendously excited to confirm the only 2010 UK appearance of Swedish pioneers MESHUGGAH, who will appear as special guests to an equally exciting headline act, which will be announced on June 14th.
Since 1987, MESHUGGAH have pushed the boundaries of hard music, with their innovative brand of extreme experimental metal dropping jaws across the globe. With their complex, polyrhythmic song structures, a MESHUGGAH live show has to be seen to be believed - impressive doesn’t even come close to describing the almost inhuman delivery of their death/thrash/prog metal blend - BLOODSTOCK ticket holders are truly in for a treat. Heralded by many as one of the most important bands in metal, it is an honour to have MESHUGGAH at BLOODSTOCK for an exclusive, rare live appearance at this 10th anniversary show.

BLOODSTOCK can also confirm the addition of Welsh death metal superstars DESECRATION. With their brutal, gore-drenched death metal, the band have become one of the leading names in the underground scene, touring with some of the top names in extreme metal. The band look forward to their BLOODSTOCK debut:

SCREAM BLOODY GORE! As part of Bloodstock’s 10th Anniversary celebrations we are launching the OFFICIAL BLOODSTOCK FRIDAY 13th fancy dress competition!

What better day to have a metal festival than on the official day of horror FRIDAY 13TH. And what better way to add some fun to Friday’s proceedings than our fright-filled costume contest!

The theme is simple: anything in the style of Friday 13th or any famous horror movie characters - Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, Hellraiser… the dungeon of ideas and inspiration is bottomless! The creator of the most elaborate or imaginative costume will win VIP tickets to B.O.A. 2011, the opportunity to watch a band of their choice from the side of the stage at this year’s Bloodstock, a festival T-Shirt and lots of other Bloodstock goodies .

We will have a dedicated team selecting possible candidates throughout the day. Vampires, zombies, werewolves, crazed axe killers – anything you can imagine and bring to life! Ten finalists will then be brought onto the Sophie Stage just before midnight to be judged by the rabid crowd – the loudest cheer wins! Diversity is the key so 3 different themed winners will be selected on the day !
